King’s Own Institute, in partnership with China Education Group, has been running a series of Exchange Student programs since the start of 2025.

In early January, the first cohort of 21 students arrived from several institutions under the CEG umbrella to begin a jam-packed two weeks of life here in Australia. Not only did they visit many sites in Sydney and beyond, but they also experienced English Language learning Australian style from the highly proficient ELICOS teachers from AAC.

The students were of mixed English language proficiencies, so the language in the lessons reflected this, featuring not only practical work, but fun activities and games. The students were truly astonished at the way we teach here in Australia.

The two weeks culminated in a visit to KOI’s Newcastle campus, followed by a graduation ceremony.

February saw the second group arrive from Haikou University of Economics, and these students all had a high level of fluency in English. Again, the lessons were punctuated with excursions and shopping trips, but The AAC teachers had streamlined their lessons by this time to better reflect the needs of the students. However, this time, it was the AAC teachers who were truly astonished by the students.
