The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course is tailored for students preparing for vocational or university-level studies. You’ll develop essential academic skills, including understanding lectures, writing essays, conducting research, and referencing sources. COURSE FEES

ELICOS students must pay an upfront fee of $1,300 AUD, which includes $1,100 AUD for approximately 5 weeks of tuition and a $200 AUD application fee. The remaining tuition fees are divided into two installments to be paid during the course of study. 

LEVELS
UPPER INTERMEDIATE

The EAP Upper Intermediate course gives students the special skills
needed to be successful at university or college. The primary focus
is on how to study. This means reading for gist, how to write essays,
how to listen to lectures, how to take notes, taking part in seminars
and class discussions, and how to give presentations on a variety of
subjects, including graphs and reports. In addition to this, an emphasis is placed on how to think critically on any subject.
The IELTS equivalent at exit is 5.5.

ADVANCED

Many students find attending university in a foreign country to be a
difficult experience. However, our EAP Advanced course not only
focuses on academic language skills, but also on the cultural
differences students may experience, both socially and academically. These areas may include interacting with groups, understanding the expectations of lecturers, and how to develop autonomous learning skills. Our aim is to enable you to gain confidence and independence.
The IELTS equivalent at exit is 6.0-6.5.

  • Develop writing, reading and speaking skills to be suitable for academic environments

  • Improve research skills and become an independent learner

  • Recognise and appreciate cultural differences

  • Make a smooth transition from studying in your own language and environment, to a foreign one

We teach all the skills and study skills needed for a successful transition to a tertiary institution setting in a challenging, yet fun and communicative way. We aim to give students the confidence they need to excel in their future tertiary studies.

TRACK YOUR PROGRESS & ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS

We ensure continuous learning and development with regular assessments and progress checks throughout each level of your course.

 

  • Progress Tests – Assessments based on all four skills through Integrated Skills Progress tests, individual presentations and reports, group presentations and reports, long form Speaking and Reading assessments, extended Essay writing with abstract, and study skills portfolios.

  • Interactive Class Activities – Engage in pair and group discussions, class-led debates, presenting in front of large groups, and group collaborative research projects to help develop your study skills.

  • Practical Assignments – Strengthen your skills through research tasks, spoken presentations, and written exercises.

 

Upon successfully completing either level you will receive a Statement of Achievement stating your results with either a Pass, Credit, Distinction or High Distinction result. This certificate allows you to successfully enrol into a course at King’s Own Institute, our Pathways partner, or other tertiary institutions, depending on their requirements.

PATHWAY TO HIGHER EDUCATION

Students completing our English for Academic Purposes

(EAP) course can meet the English language requirements for direct entry into KOI’s degree programs, eliminating the need for additional English proficiency tests.

  • A successful EAP Upper-Intermediate certificate could provide entry into one of KOI’s Bachelor’s programs.

  • A successful EAP Advanced certificate could provide entry into one of KOI’s Master’s programs.
